Now in its eighteenth year, the Jam, draws on the area's rich cross-section of musical styles and talent. The shows run the musical spectrum from blues to bluegrass and jazz to alternative rock, r&b, and hip hop. The musicians donate their time and talent, and where there is an admission charge, it is donated by the venues. The WAMA Crosstown Jam has been a wonderful way for area artists to showcase their talent while giving back to the community. In 1986, the WAMA Crosstown Jam Committee was formed and soon began searching for a club and some musicians to take part in a charity concert. The response was so strong from bands and club owners that nine shows and fifty artists contributed to what became the first Crosstown Jam.
