Indie Awards * RIAA Awards * WAMA Classifides

The Indies

On May 25, 1996 the National Association of Independent Record Distributors and Manufacturers awarded its 1995 Indie Award in the category of Adult Contemporary to Pete and Maura Kennedy for their CD "River of Fallen Stars" on Green Linnet/Redbird Records. The award for Children's Music went to John McCutcheon for "Wintersongs" which was co-produced by McCutcheon and Bob Dawson and released on Rounder Records. The Indie Award recognizes recording excellence and is presented to recordings that are sold through the independent distribution network.

RIAA Public Service and Cultural Awards

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) held their 21st Public Service and Cultural Award Celebration at the Washington Hilton. On April 18 Jack Valenti, President of the Motion Picture Association of America received the Cultural Award in recognition of the significance he has made to the arts and entertainment community. The Public Service Award, which recognizes public servants who have had a significant impact on public policy affecting the music industry, was awarded to Congressman Carlo Moorehead and Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder. On hand to help honor the award recipients were Sheryl Crowe, Congressman Joseph Kennedy and the Neville Brothers, who performed to a packed house.
