Keter Betts (1984) September 8, 2004
The Keter Betts Trio featuring Keter Betts, bassist and long-time collaborator of Ella Fitzgerald, performs jazz classics at Strathmore. Betts, a Howard University music instructor since 1963, founded the Wolf Trap school program in 1981, and has appeared on nearly 100 albums, including his own releases, Bass, Buddies & Blues and Bass, Buddies, Blues Beauty Too.

Tom Paxton (1985) September 15, 2004
A Greenwich Village fixture in the 1960s and current Alexandria, VA resident, Tom Paxton has been honored with the 2002 American Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers (ASCAP) Lifetime Achievement Award and various Wammie Awards. Debi Smith, a long-standing member of the Four Bitchin' Babes and songwriter of several Tom Paxton favorites, will perform with Bill Kemp in celebration of Paxton.

Twist and Shout Club (1986) September 22, 2004
Come celebrate the music of the Twist and Shout Club, a former Bethesda music venue, with the Junkyard Saints.

Establishment of D.C. Blues Society (1987) October 6, 2004
The founding of the D.C. Blues Society in 1987 guaranteed a preservation of the rich blues tradition in Washington D.C. Janine Wilson, who is fast becoming a D.C. blues institution herself, performs at Strathmore with others to honor the D.C. Blues Society.

Danny Gatton (1989) October 13, 2004
The Fat Boys with Dave Elliott, Dave Chappell, Billy Hancock, and Joe Stanley rock the Strathmore music room in celebration of guitar virtuoso Danny Gatton.

Also appearing will be the Swingspeak with guests John Cocuzzi, Bruce Swaim and Rick Whitehead.

Sweet Honey in the Rock (1989) October 20, 2004
Enjoy an evening with a tribute by urban contemporary vocalists Amikaeyla Gaston and Verlette Simon to the spiritual and political music of D.C.-based Sweet Honey in the Rock.

Shirley Horn (1990) October 27, 2004
Jazz vocalist Ronnie Wells will celebrate the music of native Washingtonian, Miles Davis collaborator, and Grammy Award winner Shirley Horn. Ms. Wells has appeared at The Kennedy Center, and has performed with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Airmen of Note and the U.S. Navy Commodores Orchestra.

Mary Chapin Carpenter (1992) November 3, 2004
A celebration of the music of five-time Grammy winner Mary Chapin Carpenter with award-winning vocalist Lisa Moscatiello. Moscatiello has been hailed as "one of the best voices in the business" by Philadelphia's legendary folk DJ Gene Shay (WXPN).

Emmet Swimming (1995) December 15, 2004
Emmet Swimming is often called "one of the most successful touring bands to come out of the Mid-Atlantic". The band has continuously toured for over 7 years and regularly sells out venues from Boston to Atlanta.

Doug Derryberry & John Alagia (199?) December 22, 2004
Derryberry & Alagia, the well-known upbeat rock-folk duo, join together to celebrate Washington area music. Derryberry, currently Bruce Hornsby's guitarist, and Alagia, produce records for many popular artists today, including Jon Mayer and Vertical Horizon.

John Eaton (2000) December 29, 2004
Pianist, vocalist, and humorist, John Eaton is one of Washington D.C.'s true musical treasures. Tonight, he performs the great classics of popular song and jazz.

Root Boy Slim January 5, 2005
Mr. “Boogie Til You Puke,” Yale graduate, Warner Bros. recording artist and certified lunatic Root Boy Slim steamrolled into DC in the late 70s with his own unique brand of outrageous psycho-blues rock. Until his death in 1993 he fronted many of the best musicians the area has had to offer, and became the stuff of urban legend in the process.

Buck Hill (2004) POSTPONED to March 30, 2005
The Timeline concert series comes to an end with a tribute to a Washington D.C. staple—Buck Hill. Hill received fame for being a mailman who also plays tenor saxophone. He recorded with Charlie Byrd (1958-1959) and went on to lead sessions for SteepleChase and Muse, displaying a large tone and a swinging style. Performance by Al Williams & Friends

Strathmore nurtures art, artists and community through creative and diverse programming of the highest quality and will be home to the new Music Center at Strathmore in February 2005.
